Elaine Charney, Artist
Elaine recently moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she now lives. She paints and teaches there. Her classes are quite popular. She and a co-chair hosted an art exhibition at the center where 30 artists participated.
Elaine is an attorney who enjoyed a career as an Administrative Law Judge in Michigan and worked for the Department of Homeland Security before turning to art in 2006. She taught Beginning and Intermediate-Advanced Watercolor for Adult Community Enrichment at the Suncoast Technical Collage. She also brought nationally known artists to teach workshops at Art Center Sarasota.
Elaine was the featured artist at a recent exhibition at the Audubon Society at Celery Fields in Sarasota. She was awarded the "Cutting Edge" Award at the 2016 International Society of Experimental Artists. Her art was accepted into the National Art Exhibition, Punta Gorda, in 2015, the Florida Watercolor Society (FWS) 2017-2013 Exhibitions and Traveling Show. Her paintings were accepted for the FWS Digital Show in 2009, 2010, 2014 and she won 3rd Place in this show in 2012. In 2013 she placed 1st at Art Center Manatee, 3rd at the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society, and 1st place in the Windsor Invitational. She was awarded 3rd Place at the Art & Frame Eye for Art exhibition in 2011, and was accepted in the Salon des Rufuses, FWS show in 2008.
Her art was featured at Creations Gallery at the Village, Punta Gorda; Michaels on the Boulevard Gallery and Boutique, St Armands Circle, Sarasota, Art Center Sarasota, Art Center Manatee, Venice Art Center, the Merrill Lynch Office in downtown Sarasota, Adult Community Enrichment - Suncoast Technical College, and at www.elainecharney.com. She was featured in the First Friday of the Month, Downtown Art Walk at Salon 41 on Palm Avenue, 2014-2015.
She is a member of the International Society of Experimental Artists, D'Art, and is a SIgnature Artist with the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society and the Florida Watercolor Society..
She studied under Douglas H. Teller, Prof. Emeritus, George Washington University, and Mary Lou Ringers, Suncoast Technical Collage, and has taken many workshops conducted by renowned artists.
Elaine paints in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media.
